Joe Carnahan’s dance card is filling by the day – what with his commitments to “Death Wish” (he wrote it, Eli Roth directed it), prepping a remake of action hit “The Raid”, and collaborating with Ryan ‘Deadpool’ Reynolds on superhero spin-off “X-Force” – but apparently that’s not the only reason he’s decided to exit the long-gestating “Bad Boys for Life”.
The Hollywood Reporter says the “A-Team” and “Smokin’ Aces” helmer opted to exit the Sony production, which has suffered a few setbacks that have pushed it’s start date further and further back, over “creative differences”.
Carnahan had written the most recent draft of the film -the third in the series of “Bad Boys” movies that kicked off in 1995 – so one can only assume that either the studio (always trying to keep the budgets down on these things) or the films headline acts Will Smith and Martin Lawrence didn’t like what was on the page. The trade says Sony are looking for a new director who’ll likely rewrite the script to his or her own liking, suggesting the plot of Carnahan’s incarnation is being tossed out the window of a speeding Lamborghini.
The most recent release date pencilled in for the film was November 8, 2018.
