Joseph Gordon-Levitt eyed for superhero role… but it’s not Batman

The kid who got a ‘rollerblade in the head’ – yep, that old trick! – from Michael Myers in the late ’90s may be cinema’s new Doctor Strange.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the star of “Dark Knight Rises”, “Premium Rush” and, of course, “Halloween H20”, is Marvel’s pick to play the well-attired superhero in their long-gestating comic book blockbuster. That’s according to the oft-reliable Latino Review who says the rather in-demand young actor may get some mail soon with a request to return to superhero-ville (he was there in 2012 for “Dark Knight Rises”).

Now at press time, we are not saying that an offer has been made, that talks have even engaged and who knows, Levitt and his team are probably unaware, BUT we are hearing that Marvel execs internally are discussing that Levitt is who they figure would be ideal.

Based upon what I know of the story details, an awesome choice. Levitt’s career is on absolute FIRE at the moment, his directorial debut Don Jon drops later this fall, and he is the right age (32). In the current draft of the script by Oppenheimer and Donnelly, the Sorcerer Supreme is written for someone in their early 30s. Levitt has both the charm and also the swagger the script currently demands. That and the fact that Levitt is one of the more likeable actors in town.

Again, an awesome casting choice, and in my book just the right pedigree of actor that Marvel usually goes for.

Marvel are going to pimp “Doctor Strange” at Comic-Con, so we might hear more about the project then (but it’s doubtful they’ll mention the Gordon-Levitt rumour, considering – as they state – he probably hasn’t even received an offer yet), if even just see some pretty artwork on a monitor behind Kevin Feige.
