Last Jedi director teases new Star Wars movie

Love it or loathe it, there’s no denying Rian Johnson’s “The Last Jedi” did not deserve the battering it got from Lucas loyalists. For all it’s faults, the film was an extremely well-made, visually-spectacular and mostly exciting addition to the long-running saga.

While he mightn’t be back for the final instalment in the Skywalker trilogy, next month’s “The Rise of Skywalker”, the “Knives’ Out” director says he’s not walking away from the “Star Wars” brand just yet.

“We’re still engaged with Lucasfilm and we’ll wait and see,” Johnson said at a Deadline event (via The Playlist). “No updates on it at this moment, but yeah.”

At the event, Johnson mentioned the trolls that came after him for “Star Wars” and also how one of the characters in his new film (“Knives’ Out”) uses the platform as a weapon.

“Anyone who’s on Twitter these days, God bless you because it’s rough waters out there, but there’s also wonderful stuff about it,” Johnson said. “That’s why we’re all still on it I guess. That’s one of the things [Knives Out] engages with, the current state of online culture. Whether you made a Star Wars movie or you have a cooking show, whatever you’re doing on there, someone’s going to be screaming at you about it probably. Let’s put it on a screen in a way we can all maybe have a laugh about it.”
