Lucas’s Star Wars TV show lives?

Despite the big man selling the brand to Walt, George Lucas’s long-proposed “Star Wars” TV might still be on the cards.

The former head of Lucasfilm had been working on a series, said to be called, “Star Wars : Underworld” for many years. He even had 100 episodes of the show – which he’d planned to run 400 episodes – written. It was reportedly a prequel, set in the Coruscant underworld during the timespan between ”Star Wars: Episode III : Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: Episode IV : A New Hope”. Lucas and then-producer Rick McCallum had described the series as grittier and darker than the “Star Wars” films, with the latter even calling it “Deadwood in Space” at one point.

At the press day for “Star Wars : The Force Awakens”, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy was asked whether or not those 100 “Underworld” scripts are now being used to line packing boxes.

“No. No, interestingly enough, thats an area we’ve spent a lot of time, reading through the material that he developed is something we very much would like to explore”, /film quoted the prolific producer turned studio head. “And there was 1313 the game.”

“1313” was the “Star Wars” video game that was suddenly cancelled when Lucasfilm was bought out by Disney.

“So our attitude is, we don’t want to throw any of that stuff away. It’s gold. And it’s something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further. We definitely want to.”

As for a Jar Jar Binks spin-off, Kennedy refused to respond.
