Martin Scorsese’s Silence enters the Oscar race

Paramount Pictures will release Martin Scorsese’s “Silence” in limited release on December 23. The film will then receive a wide release in January 2017.

Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, Tadanobu Asano, Issey Ogata, Ciaran Hinds, Yosuke Kubozuka, and Yoshi Oida star in the film about two Jesuit priests who travel from Portugal to Japan in the 1670s.

“Silence” will open against another of Liam Neeson’s films, Juan Antonio Bayona’s “A Monster Calls”. The film will also open just two days after Sony‘s sci-fi drama “Passengers”, 20th Century Fox‘s “Assassin’s Creed” and Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s animated musical “Sing”.
