Mary Jane Watson gets an upside-down kiss from Divergent

Up and comer Shailene Woodley (“The Descendants”) is closing in on a deal to headline the “Hunger Games”-esque “Divergent”, from director Neil Burger (“The Illusionist”) and twi-fantasy franchise pimps, Lionsgate/Summit.

It’s been a big month for Woodley, who also just booked the role of Mary Jane Watson in the “Amazing Spider-Man” sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter says Woodley nearly spawned a frown in relation to this one, with the “Spider-Man” role originally proposing to shoot at the same time. It’s been worked out though, and the “Secret Life of the American Teenager” will be able to give life to both characters.

The character in “Divergent”, based on the book of the same name, is a 16-year-old, growing up in a future society that is divided into factions based on human traits, who decides to leave her group to join a rival faction, ultimately falling for a young man.
