20th Century Fox has tapped Patrick Ness (“A Monster Calls”, “Chaos Walking”) to pen a create to critically acclaimed Peter Weir actioner “Master and Commander : The Far Side of the World” (2003).
The new film will be set before the events of Captain Jack Aubrey’s (Russell Crowe) clash with the French privateer Acheron.
The original film, adapted from three novels in author Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey–Maturin series, saw Aubrey and surgeon Dr. Stephen Maturin (Paul Bethany) battle a French vessel on the high seas during the Napoleonic Wars.
Deadline says the prequel may be based on the book “Master and Commander” which finds a young Aubrey newly appointed to a ship and sailing with Maturin for the first time on the HM Sophie, battling a Spanish Naval boat in the Mediterranean. Crowe and Bettany would likely not return.
A couple of years back, Crowe launched an appeal on Twitter to get the sequel made.
If you want a Master and Commander sequel I suggest you e-mail Tom Rothman at Fox and let him know your thoughts
