McSteamy leaving Grey’s Anatomy

Eric Dane is hanging up that steamy stethoscope of his.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” actor has opted to exit the hit series, feeling his Dr. Mark Sloan aka McSteamy has exhausted his storyline (and likely has nobody left in the hospital – still breathing – to nude wrestle with).

“After much consideration and conversations, he and I have decided that this is the right time for his storyline to end”, creator Shonda Rhimes tells TVLine, who have the scoop on Dane’s exit.

Sloan was recently left injured in the plane accident that left his beloved Lexie (Chyler Leigh) dead. Seems that’s enough to make a man walk into the sunset.

“I am extremely grateful to everyone at Grey’s, ABC and Shondaland for the experience and memories I have had over the course of this run,” Dane tells the site. “It has been wonderful to work alongside and learn from a creative force such as Shonda Rhimes.”

Dane, whose movie credits include “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” and “Feast”, made his debut in Season 2 of the series, now going into it’s ninth – *wipes brow* – season.
