Michael Keaton is Birdman!

A Capeless Michael Keaton will feature amongst the ensemble cast of “Birdman”, a dark comedy from “Children of Men” helmer Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu.

The comedy will feature the one-time ‘Batman’ as “a former actor, who once played an iconic superhero, as he mounts a Broadway play based on a Raymond Carver short story in a bid to reclaim past glory. However, the play’s egotistical leading man threatens to throw everything down the tubes”, says THR.

Fellow comic book movie star Emma Stone (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) is also amongst the cast, playing Keaton’s daughter, fresh from rehab and now his assistant.

Oscar Nominee Naomi Watts (“The Impossible”) is an actress in the play, while “Bored to Death” star Zach Galifianakis will play the production’s conniving producer.

Gonzalez Inarritu co-wrote the script with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo.

Keaton, who starred in two “Batman” movies, had originally expressed interest in doing a third film, but he and Warner didn’t agree that he should be a dark, prequel project centering on Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman. As a result, Keaton hung up the cape and Val Kilmer took over the role for 1995’s “Batman Forever”.
