Neill Blomkamp was on board to direct “RoboCop Returns”, but the director has announced on his Twitter that he has exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Instead, Blomkamp will be shooting a new horror/thriller at the same time MGM wants to shoot “RoboCop”.
Off Robocop. I am shooting new horror/thriller and MGM can’t wait/ need to shoot Robocop now. Excited to watch it in theaters with other fans. N

The upcoming modern-day sequel will ignore the previous sequels and reboots, and only acknowledge the 1987 flick from director Paul Verhoeven.
No official release date has been set for “RoboCop Returns”, but Blomkamp’s tweet suggests that the production is being fast-tracked so they’ll be looking to replace him as director as soon as they can.
