New gigs for Jacki Weaver, Eric Bana

Aussies Jacki Weaver (“Animal Kingdom”) and Eric Bana (“Star Trek”) have secured work for the next few months.

Weaver, who just shot the Judd Apatow-produced “The-Five-Year-Engagement”, has joined the cast of “The Silver Linings Playbook” according to THR.

Directed by David O’Russell, the rom-com stars Bradley Cooper as a chronically-depressed teacher who, following a stint in an institution, tries to put his life back together. The man tries to win back his ex-wife but ends up falling for an eccentric neighbour (Jennifer Lawrence) instead.

Weaver, riding high on the success of her Oscar nominated role in “Animal Kingdom”, would play Cooper’s mother.

Melbourne-boy Eric Bana, meanwhile, is teaming with another Victorian Robert Luketic (“Killers”) for the heist comedy “Brilliant”. Written by Gillian Gorfil and Elizabeth Shorten, Variety hasn’t any details on Bana’s character but says the film tells of a small-time crook who teams up with some hotshot crooks to pull off the ultimate heist.

I know which of the two films reported above I’m more interested in.
