In an interview with IGN, Jesse Eisenberg opened up about how different his take on Lex Luthor -in the upcoming “Batman vs. Superman” – will be from other incarnations of the character. “I don’t know the history as well as the people making the movie, so I guess it’s up to them to figure out how much they want to separate it from previous incarnations. But I will treat it like it’s its own role. There’s no way to play the history of the character played by other people, unless you do some kind of wink, but that doesn’t seem like a responsible way to act. So I will just do it as though it’s a character, in the same way you do a movie like The Double, which is a smaller movie — but you just kind of treat it like a character, and that’s probably the best course of action, I think.”
Eisenberg said he’s not allowed to say whether or not he’ll be bald for the film, but did reiterate that “The character’s really good, so it’s like doing anything else. They make a lot of those movies, so if you’re an actor in things, you will probably cross paths with it at some point. But the character’s written really well. It’s a really great role. The fact that it’s in a big movie, you know, it seems like a character that would be in any kind of movie. It just happens to be in a bigger, flashier kind of thing.”

Catherine Keener and Anton Yelchin will star in “The Greens are Gone”, the story of “the matriarch of a dysfunctional family who’s pushed to her tipping point by the disappearance of her son”. Yelchin plays the son, Keener plays mama, Kiernan Shipka (“Mad Men”) plays Keener’s bipolar daughter, and Riley Keough and newcomer Annie Starke will play Keener’s troubled grown daughters. Cary Elwes, Lois Smith and Ryan Eggold are also in the Peer Pederson directed movie.
Nicolas Winding Refn (“Drive”) will direct Sony’s haunted house movie “The Bringing”. “This is the one that got the town whipped into a frenzy partly because its catalyst was a widely circulated video of a young woman who displayed erratic behavior in an elevator at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, the place where such killers as Richard Ramirez called home at one time or other, and where numerous suicides have occurred. The woman, Elisa Lam, was found dead in the water tanks at the roof of the hotel. The script has nothing really to do with that that tragedy but it created a germ of an idea focusing on a man investigating a death at the hotel, and the nightmare he stumbles into.” Refn sought the project out.
Rachel McAdams is the Weinstein’s pick for the female lead in long-gestating boxing movie “Southpaw”. Lupita Nyong‘o is up for the role of the social worker, and Forest Whitaker is up for the role of the boxing trainer. Antoine Fuqua (“King Arthur”) directs the movie, which is based on a screenplay by Kurt Sutter.
A sequel to 1984’s “Firestarter” – based on the book by Stephen King – is in the works over at TNT. TV Guide describes the sequel- titled “The Shop” – like this : Twenty years after bringing The Shop to its knees, Charlie has been tracked down by one of its former members, Henry Talbot, who reveals that The Shop is alive and badder than ever, unleashing terrifying new entities into the world. It’s now up to Talbot, Charlie and others like her to find The Shop and destroy it for good.
