Release shuffle: Star Wars, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Spider-Man, Jumanji

There’s been a bit of a shuffle of the release calendar today with Disney moving “Star Wars: Episode VIII” and the next “Pirates of the Caribbean” film into new release slots, and Sony shuffling “Spider-Man” and “Jumanji” around. Paramount also just set it’s “Baywatch” movie to release on May 19, 2017.

First to “Star Wars: Episode VIII”, which was previously planned to open on May 26, 2017. Disney will now release the film on December 15, 2017, clearly favoring the success of “The Force Awakens'” December release.

The film is currently in pre-production and will start shooting in London next month. Rian Johnson wrote the script and will direct.

Previously scheduled for a July 7, 2017 release, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” has taken the vacated May 26 spot.

Now that “Pirates” has been moved, Sony has pushed “Spider-Man” up from an initial release date of July 28, 2017 into the July 7 slot.

The studio also shifted its “Jumanji” remake from a Christmas Day release to the slot previously held by “Spider-Man”, July 28, 2017.
