“Lone Ranger” Plot Revealed
A casting call for Gore Verbinski’s dusty boots epic sheds light on the film’s storyline. Surprisingly, the story breakdown published by Comic Book Movie doesn’t feature any of the supernatural elements believed to feature in earlier versions of the script (like werewolves) – that doesn’t mean, of course, that they’re not still in it. “Left for dead in an ambush with five other Texas Rangers, lawman John Reid (Armie Hammer) survives and is nursed back to health by an Indian scout named Tonto (Johnny Depp). He then dons a mask to avenge the murders of his comrades and to foil evildoers, never accepting payment for his services. His gratis vigilantism is made possible by the silver mine he inherits from his slain brothers – the same mine that affords him his endless supply of trademark silver bullets.”
New Standees for “Men in Black 3” and “Ghost Rider 2”
I don’t know which film I’m less more excited about it; whatever, these new theater standees (pics taken by Collider) are nifty :
Speaking of “Men in Black III”, we should see a trailer for the Will Smith prequel offering in about five days.
“Dark Knight Rises” Tragedy
Warner Bros has confirmed an extra died while shooting last month’s ‘riot’ scene for the “Batman” sequel. “The studio can confirm that a male extra passed away while on a break during an off-set crowd rehearsal for a sequence with several hundred extras . . . in early November. Production fully cooperated with the authorities’ investigation, which established that he died of natural causes,” a Warners rep said (via The New York Post).
“Sherlock Holmes : A Game of Shadows” Premieres in London
Appropriately, Warners’ “Sherlock Holmes” sequel premiered in London last night. The boys behind the 221B door badge, Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, rocked up to stump the film, as did director Guy Ritchie, castmembers Jared Harris and Noomi Rapace, and other luminaries.

Eddie Murphy to play Barry in Spike Lee film
Eddie Murphy is ditching the talking animals and squirting squirt movies for a wee bit while he plays Washington D.C. Mayor Marion Barry in an untitled telemovie set up at HBO. Spike Lee would direct the bio and John Ridley (“Red Tails”) will pen the screenplay. As THR reminds us, “Barry served as the D.C. mayor from 1979 to 1991 and again from 1995 to 1999, and is currently a member of the D.C. City Council representing the city’s eighth ward. In January 1990, Barry was caught smoking crack cocaine at the Vista International Hotel in downtown and was arrested on drug charges, serving six months in prison.”
“Enders Game” snags Gandhi
Ben Kingsley has joined the cast of the science-fiction film about a youngster trained to battle aliens. The movie, based on the novel of the same name, stars Asa Butterfield; Hailee Steinfeld is in negotiations. “Species” and “Hugo” star Kingsley will play a war hero lone thought dead.
Marshall heading to “Hellfest”
Neil Marshall (“Dog Soldiers”) will direct the horror film about “a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night”, according to Deadline. The plan is to begin shooting next Summer.
“Fringe”, “Wrestler” stars join “Inescapable”
Joshua Jackson and Marisa Tomei have joined the cast of the Ruba Nadda written/directed film about “a Syrian expatriate (Alexander Siddig) whose journalist daughter goes missing in Damascus, and he must return to his homeland to find her and calls on a former love (Tomei) to help him. An embassy official (Jackson) is at first helpful but may have an agenda of his own.”
Tom Cruise says “Top Gun 2” is gonna fly
The “Top Gun” sequel, which Tony Scott has managed to convince Tom Cruise back as ‘Maverick’ for, is still very much a go the “Mission : Impossible” actor tells MTV. “I said to Tony, I want to make another movie with him. He and I haven’t made a film since Days Of Thunder. Tony and I and Jerry, we never thought that we would do it again. Then they started to come to us with these ideas and I thought, wow, that would be what we could do now.” Cruise went on to say it’ll only happen if they find “a story that we all want to do. I hope we can figure this out to do it again… We all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way as we shot Top Gun”.

Uma Thurman will “Smash”
The “Kill Bill” actress will do a 5-episode stint on the upcoming TV series. The actress, who’ll work opposite Debra Messing and Jack Davenport on the NBC mid-seasoner, plays a “famous and somewhat difficult movie star who flirts with the idea of starring in Marilyn,” the musical about Marilyn Monroe. “Smash”, premiering in Feb, is based on an idea executive producer Steven Spielberg had.
