Despite the success of their greenback-gobbling “Hunger Games”, Lionsgate are still in the black financially-speaking (TheSpec.com); Meanwhile, “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart says she wants “Hunger Games” to win best kiss at the MTV Movie Awards.
This week’s “Piranha 3DD” is the first 3D film to get a simultaneous theatrical and video-on-demand release. The John Gulager-directed blood n’ boobs fest will be available for a 48-hour VOD rental; $6.99 in standard and high definition, and $7.99 in 3D; consumers have 30 days from the time of purchase to begin viewing. Starz Digital Media has also collaborated with Milyoni to bring Piranha 3DD in VOD to Facebook, with the first-ever 3D Facebook VOD app for rental on the leading social media platform. The app allows users to transform the online movie-viewing experience into a social experience by letting them comment and share clips, stills, and quotes with their friends. “Fans of the Piranha franchise are in for a ‘feeding frenzy’ of viewing options, with so many opportunities and ways to enjoy the campy and thrilling sequel,” said Mara Winokur, senior vice president of digital media distribution at Starz Media and lead executive at Starz Digital Media. “We have been looking at experimenting in the premium VOD space; Piranha 3DD provided the perfect title in terms of genre and installed fan base. Adding in the first-ever Facebook 3D option gives viewers even more control over how and when they watch the movie, and is a logical extension of the premium VOD experience.”

“Drive” director Nicholas Winding Refn is in talks to direct”Button Man”, an adaptation of the graphic novel ”Button Man: The Killing Game” by John Wagner and Arthur Ranson. “The action revolves around Harry Exton, a hired gun who’s offered a fortune to take part in a game organized by bored millionaires that sets trained killers against one another in a fight to the death. The fat cats bet on the proceedings, and when Exton gets disgusted and opts out, his only exit strategy might be to off the millionaires funding the competition.” (Deadline)
There’s rumoured plot details for The Wachowski’s “Jupiter Ascending” online. “Imagine a universe in which “human beings are just the Cro-Magnons, or even the Australopithecines, of what beings can ultimately go on to become in the galaxy,” explains our source, before adding, “It’s a return to form for [the Wachowskis], because these higher forms of life are watching us from other, albeit this time non-meta worlds, but actual, other worlds, as in planets and moons.”” Mila Kunis, who is the female lead, and Channing Tatum will star.
