Reboots & remakes : The 4400, Breaking Bad movie, Explorers

A reboot of “The 4400” has been confirmed at The CW with Taylor Elmore and Craig Sweeny co-writing and exec-producing the pilot.

In the series, over the course of recent history, four thousand four hundred young adults in their reproductive prime have gone missing all over the world. Some disappearances happened as recently as a few weeks ago, while others date as far back as the day the Soviets launched the Sputnik satellite in 1957. One day in 2019, all 4,400 show up at the sites of their original abductions. None of them have aged a day and none have any memory of where they’ve been. The so called “4400” must grapple with their return to a changed and hostile world and also contend with the reality that they’ve come back altered in ways that none of them yet understand.

The original series ran from 2004-2007 for 44 episodes, and starred Joel Gretsch, Jacqueline McKenzie, Conchita Campbell, and Mahershala Ali. René Echevarria and Scott Peters created it. News of the reboot comes from Variety.

Talk of a “Breaking Bad” movie has been on everyone’s lips for quite a while, and Bryan Cranston has commented on it in an interview with the Dan Patrick Show on YouTube. Cranston stated “Yes, there appears to be a movie version of Breaking Bad. But I honestly have not even read the script. So I couldn’t tell you… If Vince Gilligan asked me to do it, sure, absolutely. He’s a genius.

Cranston further notes he believes the movie will see the return of at least a couple of characters, though doesn’t confirm if his character Walter White will return. Aaron Paul has long been rumoured to be returning as Jesse Pinkman.

Variety notes that series creator Gilligan is working on a two-hour film, and that the logline states that it “tracks the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.” The title has been pencilled as “Greenbriar”, with production set to begin mid-November through to early February – though we’re still waiting on official confirmation of these details.

Cary Fukunaga & David Lowery are teaming up to turn 1985 film “Explorers” into a TV pilot, reports Deadline. The film is a coming-of-age sci-fi film that starred Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix. Both Fukunaga and Lowery are set to pen the script, with one to direct the pilot if it reaches those stages.

“Explorers” was about a boy obsessed with ’50s sci-fi aliens movies who has a recurring dream about a blueprint of some kind. He draws it for his inventor friend and with the help of a third pal, they end up building a spaceship. That will be the basis for the aspirational dramatic series.
