Guillermo del Toro has responded to claims that “Pacific Rim 2” has been popped like a prickled bike-tire.
The filmmaker – never one to take no for an answer (see “Hellboy 3”) – took to Twitter to refute claims made by The Hollywood Reporter that the sequel to his Hunnam-vs-Godzilla movie has been canned.

In the trade’s defense, Universal doesn’t seem to have much confidence in the property – they’ve moved the title around on the release schedule like a loose Tic-Tac on a Monopoly board. Secondly, the project was to be del Toro’s next – but then he went and signed for a new version of “Fantastic Voyage” over at Fox. So, yes, it would seem like the project isn’t a priority for anyone – particularly those bankrolling it – right now.
Del Toro’s next? Presenting the Oscar Noms on Thursday morning. And yes, they’re definitely happening. He’s double checked. No word yet on whether Ron Perlman will be involved in the telecast.
