Robert Downey Jr and Warner Bros. to Reboot Perry Mason

Sure, in the ’90s Robert Downey Jr. had his share of trouble with the law and happy cookies…but that’s all clearly behind him. Getting one heck of a second fourth chance, RDJ has gone on to star in some awesome movies including “Tropic Thunder”, “Zodiac” and let’s not forget the franchises for “The Avengers”, “Iron Man”, and most recently, “Sherlock Holmes”. His firing from “Ally McBeal” is all but a distant memory now. In fact, his axing from the tube may have saved his movie career.

The way he’s going, Downey will be the king of successful franchises because now there’s word Tony Stark Robert Downey Jr. and Warner Bros. are teaming up to reboot the “Perry Mason” franchise as a feature film, with The Pick Up Artist himself eyeing the title defense attorney role, made famous by the late Raymond Burr, as a potential starring vehicle.

According to Variety, “Perry Mason” will be set in the rough and tumble world of early 1930s Los Angeles, and feature fan favorites such as Mason’s secretary, Della Street, private investigator Paul Drake, and Mason’s longtime courtroom nemesis, Hamilton Burger.

Back in the late ’50s, a TV series of Perry Mason ran from 1957-1966 and starred Burr as Mason and was based on the series of books by Erle Stanley Gardner.

RDJ will produce with his wife Susan Downey along with Robert Cort, while David Gambino, Eric Hetzel and Joe Horacek will exec produce with Susan Feiles and Chris Darling.

The producers are currently looking for a writer, whose script will be based on an original story by Robert Downey Jr. and Gambino.

I think this sounds like a good role for Downey Jr. so more power to him.
