Chernin Entertainment has picked up rights to Marisha Pessl’s upcoming noir novel “Night Film”, setting Rupert Wyatt to helm the film version.
The book, due in August, tells of “an investigative journalist named Scott McGrath who begins looking into the death of a beautiful young woman that was originally deemed a suicide. The woman turns out to be the daughter of a reclusive, cult horror film director named Stanislas Cordova, and McGrath finds himself on a journey of revenge and truth”, says THR.
Chernin, behind “Oblivion” and the upcoming “The Heat”, has a first-look deal with Fox but they’re not set to distribute as of this stage; a writer is also not onboard yet.
Director Wyatt scored pay dirt when he helmed Fox’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” in 2011.
