S.H.I.E.L.D TV show greenlit; Avengers alternate opening

A new TV series based on the fictional government organization at the center of the Marvel Studios Blockbusters, “S.H.I.E.L.D” has been greenlit at ABC.

“Avengers” director Joss Whedon will co-write the pilot with Jed Whedon, and his wife, Maurissa Tancharoen.

The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, says Whedon would also likely direct the pilot for the show.

No word on which characters from the world of Marvel’s movieverse would appear in “S.H.I.E.L.D”, though since he’s the head-honcho, one would expect Nick Fury to have a main role. Samuel L.Jackson played the character in the Marvel films, including “Avengers”. Expect a new actor to play the part for TV.

Meanwhile, a new extra from the DVD/Blu-ray release of “The Avengers” appeared online this week that presents an alternate opener for the Whedon directed blockbuster.

A much darker, more sombre opening, it takes place at the ‘end’ of the film once The Avengers have defeated Loki and the other rogues, but also left New York in ruins. Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) is left to answer a lot of questions.
