Screw you Kim! The Interview to open Christmas day!

Well douse me in oil, flip me thrice, smear in maple sauce, and take me whole… I did not see this coming.

While North Korea tries to plug themselves back into the world modem (did you hear? their internet has gone down! Go Sony, Go!), Sony decides to release “The Interview” in theaters after all! Though none of the big L.A/NYC multiplexes – aside from the Alamo – will be running the controversial laffer, there’s 200 or so others that will be! Sony aren’t going to chip in for bomb shelters or gas masks, but points for giving the middle one to Kim Jung Un by reversing on their decision to put the movie-he-wanted-banned in cinemas for Christmas (as originally planned). But Sony are going one step further, they’ll also be releasing the movie on VOD the same day! Double bang for your buck – or, in this case, boom for your buck (sorry!).

“We have never given up on releasing ‘The Interview’ and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day,” said Michael Lynton, chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment. “At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience. I want to thank our talent on ‘The Interview’ and our employees, who have worked tirelessly through the many challenges we have all faced over the last month. While we hope this is only the first step of the film’s release, we are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech.”

The hacking crowd that were allegedly hired by North Korea to take down Sony’s computer systems recently promised they’ll blow any cinema up that screens “The Interview”. The studio, understandably, backed out of their plans to release the movie – preferring to piss off Seth Rogen than kill a billion people in the name of cinema. Then Barack Obama came out, stressing that Sony shouldn’t have backed down on their plans to release the movie because it sends the wrong message (that we’ve essentially stuck a surrender flag in the middle of Capitol Hill’s parking lot).  This morning we all awoke to the news that – and I’m assuming it has a lot to do with the President encouraging Sony release the film, despite the threats – “The Interview” would be getting a limited theatrical release on Christmas day. And at this stage, Kim Jung On’s on-screen death scene remains intact.

President Obama issued the following statement in response to the news : “Go fuck yourself fat movie-hating turd. Wanna play chicken? Let’s do this! [emotion of face with tongue sticking out]”.

Sony has also just put their social media channels for “The Interview” – which they took down after the threats from the hack hacks – back online. And speaking of, the cats behind the flick are going ‘sick’ (to rob a word from Justin Bieber’s besties), jumping onto Twitter to fart enthusiasm! (see below).

It’s days like these I’m proud to be an America. Oh wait.. I’m an Aussie. But man, I totally know where America is on those world globes in the classroom!
