20th Century Fox has today acquired the spec script of a “Pinocchio” prequel for Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps according to Deadline.com.
Levy (“Real Steel”, “A Night at the Museum”) is expected to direct the script written by Michael Vukadinovich, which tells the story of Geppetto’s life prior to his creation of “Pinocchio”; it’s a true tale of love and misfortune in which Geppetto experiences war, suffering and adventure all for his true love, Julia Moon.
The script is described as being “reminiscent of “Big Fish” or “The Princess Bride” and will create a new and insightful back-story into the much-loved fairy tale in a time where the film industry is dominated by reimaginings of classic stories.
A live-action “Pinocchio” film was also set up by Warner Bros that has the interest of Tim Burton.
