Sinister choice for Doctor Strange directing gig

Doctor Strange

Where “Doctor Strange” differs, as a comic book, to it’s in-ink colleagues at Marvel is that it’s not so much a superhero series as it is a spooker-hero series.

Makes sense then that someone familiar with evoking arm-hair bumps, Scott Derrickson would be up for the captain’s job on the feature film version.

According to THR’s Borys Kit, Derrickson – whose credits include “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”, “Sinister” and the upcoming “Deliver us From Evil” – has found himself on the short-list over at big-bucks central. He joins the previously-announced Mark Andrews , Jonathan Levine, Nikolaj Arcel , and newcomer Dean Israelite in the contenders corner.

The addition of Derrickson to the list suggests that Marvel are looking to do something a little more different and unique with their “Doctor Strange” film property – otherwise they’d be going the ‘can he shoot action? is he cheap? get him!’ route, and booking Noam Murro or Len Wiseman for the job. I’d say they want someone who can not only work one of these big special-effects blockbusters, but has the ability to helm a yarn that’s a little bit bash, and a little bit bump (in the night).

We’ll see how this pans out..
