Species helmer resurrects the Ripper!

Popcorn-movie beast Roger Donaldson is switching up Ballarat for Hollywood again, reuniting with the studio system on another of his presumably very appetizing commercial blockbusters.

The “Species”, “Cocktail” and “No Way Out” director will helm a new ‘Jack the Ripper’ tale for Matthew Metcalfe’s GFC Films titled “Immortal”.

Scripted by Pete Dowling,  and produced by Metcalfe and New Zealand’s GCF Films, the film pits hot-shot Detective Byrnes and rookie cop James McCafferty, whose morals are conflicting, against London’s most famous serial killer Jack the Ripper who, some believe, sailed to New York after his London killings suddenly ceased in 1888.

XYZ Films are executive producing and spearheading sales on the Croisette this month.

Casting is currently underway on the movie, but being a Donaldson-staple, I’d say it’s pretty safe to lock in Bruce Greenwood for a part.

Donaldson’s last flick, as Deadline reminds us, was the 2014 actioner “The November Man” starring Pierce Brosnan.
