William Shatner talks Star Trek Beyond

William Shatner won’t be reprising the role of Captain Kirk in “Star Trek Beyond” – nor, apparently, will he return to the part anytime soon.

Speaking to SFX, the iconic actor said he was never approached by Paramount to cameo – alongside young Kirk, Chris Pine – in the Justin Lin directed film.

“There was never a conversation. It would have been interesting to see what their fertile imaginations could have done with somebody who is twenty years older than when Captain Kirk died [in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations] and how they would have explained the difference in appearance. But that never came up. I’m sure they must have thought of it one time or another, but I never had a substantial conversation about replaying the role.”

“Star Trek Beyond” opens July 22.
