Steve Zaillian called in to rescue Jack Ryan

Steve Zaillian, who wrote the script for Phil Noyce’s final Jack Ryan flick “Clear and Present Danger” (1994), is returning to the franchise – and, it would seem, at the 11th hour.

According to Deadline, Zaillian has been tapped to rewrite “Moscow”, Paramount’s reboot of the popular film franchise (that kicked off with 1990’s “The Hunt for Red October”) with Chris Pine attached to play the role of Ryan. Jack Bender (TVs “Lost”) is directing.

Adam Cozad and Anthony Peckham had previously taken stabs at the screenplay. The film now being in development for a good couple of years. Filming was originally expected to take place this month.

We’ve heard in the past that the story would be both set on Wall Street and on the battlefields, but Deadline has a little more to add “It has to do with a terrifying helicopter crash that nearly killed Ryan when he was a 23-year old platoon leader in the US Marines. He was the only member of the platoon to survive.”

“Moscow” is the first film in the series not based on a book by Tom Clancy.
