The Dark Tower rebuilt at Sony

Ron Howard’s ambitious film (and series) adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” has moved homes again.

The project, which Howard would produce and direct, started at Universal in 2010 before moving to Warner Bros in 2012. Now, Warners has let it go, and Sony has picked it up.

Apparently, they’re starting from scratch on the script, having Avika Goldsman and Jeff Pinker flesh out a new screenplay.

“There are few projects out there that compare with the scope, vision, complex characters and fully drawn world that Stephen King has created with The Dark Tower”, said Sony chairman Tom Rothman (via THR). “I am a giant fan. And, as Stephen himself does, we love the direction that Akiva and Jeff have taken. This is a great opportunity for a director to put his or her stamp on a cool global franchise.”

Howard and Goldsman both worked with Sony on the “Da Vinci Code” and it’s two sequels.
