Tomorrow When The War Began TV series in the works

The “Tomorrow When the World Began” movie franchise may have abruptly concluded with just a singular first chapter, but producers may have found a more cost-effective way to tell the further stories of those battle-ravaged Aussie teenagers.

John Marsden’s popular series of novels may be headed to the TV screen, according to The Courier Mail.

Ambience Entertainment have reportedly started searching for seven young spunks to fill the main roles in a proposed “Tomorrow When The War Began” series. Mullinars is handling the casting for the film, with Brendan Maher expected to direct the pilot.

Assumingly, nobody from the film version – which included Caitlin Stasey, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Lincoln Lewis, Deniz Akdeniz, Phoebe Tonkin, Chris Pang, and Ashleigh Cummings – will be back for the telly take.

Despite not recovering it’s $27 million budget, the movie pocketed $7.7 million in Australia to become the highest-grossing domestic film of 2010.

Stuart Beattie, the in-demand writer/director of the 2010 film “Tomorrow When The War Began”, originally intended to follow it up with a couple of movie sequels, and eventually a TV series. It’s unlikely – if only because his plate is so full these days – he’ll be back in any type of permanent capacity on the TV series.

“Tomorrow When The War Began”, a young adult invasion novel, detailing a high-intensity invasion and occupation of Australia by a foreign power, was seen through the eyes of young Ellie Linton, who is part of a small band of teenagers waging a guerrilla war on the enemy garrison in their fictional home town of Wirrawee.
