James Gandolfini, forever remembered as Tony Soprano on HBO’s small-screen success “The Sopranos”, looks set to return to the network to headline a new drama.
Instead of a mobster, Gandolfini would play an attorney in “Criminal Justice”, The Hollywood Reporter revealed today.
The New York set drama is structured a lot like “American Horror Story”, in that each of its two seasons (running 5 episodes a piece) would consist of a new cast.
In the first arc, Ben Whishaw is set to play Ben, a young man who wakes up after a night of hard partying to find a woman beside him stabbed to death. He is charged with murder, and consequently goes on trial.
Gandolfini would play Jack Stone, a downtrodden attorney.
Steven Zaillian will direct and co-pen the pilot, with Richard Price also onboard to co-write.
“Criminal Justice” will film in New York.
