1091 Pictures to release drama/thriller ‘Take Out Girl’ on May 18.

Drama/thriller film Take Out Girl, co-written by and starring Hedy Wong, will be released digitally on May 18 by 1091 Pictures.

Based on Wong’s own real-life experiences, Take Out Girl follows Tera, a young Asian-American woman who attempts to help her immigrant mother’s struggling business by transforming her background in family restaurant delivery into a burgeoning drug empire.

Led by Hedy Wong – who co-wrote the film with director Hisonni Johnson – Take Out Girl features a multi-cultural cast including Ski Carr (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Lynn’s Yee (Fresh off the Boat), J. Teddy Garces (Days of our Lives), Lorin Ly (Raskal Love), Dijon Talton (Glee, How to Get Away with Murder) and rapper $TUPID YOUNG.

Regarding the film’s dedication to authentically portraying Asian-American perspective, Joshson and Wong had the following to say about the film:

“We put everything we had into crafting a universally relatable story without sacrificing the color of its roots, which is why we’ve maintained the Asian-American voice, experience, and authenticity. In turbulent political times such as now, Take Out Girl manages to demystify the narrative of ‘the other’ and the divisive myth of ‘the model minority,’ which the media has historically utilized to pit minorities against one another.”

The duo don’t intend to just stop there, though: “We hope that Take Out Girl makes a positive contribution to America’s social climate by provoking healthy conversations regarding this country’s varying cultural fabrics and our shared struggles. We truly believe that diversity is a source for strength, not division.”
