Twilight director bringing young adult novel Matched to the big screen

With “Daredevil” no longer on the cards, director David Slade has had to find grocery-money elsewhere.

The “Twilight Saga : Eclipse” director was originally supposed to be doing a reboot of the comic-book movie for 20th Century Fox right about now, but that fell through (with some speculating it won’t be happening anytime soon, let alone at Fox) – and for different reasons, depending on whose spin you disbelieve.

Instead he has signed up to direct the feature adaptation of the young adult novel “Matched”, for Disney, according to Deadline.

“The book series revolves around a girl in a dystopian future where choice is taken away, and a young woman falls in love with a guy she has not been matched with”, says the site, adding that the third book in the series hits shelves in November.

Kieran and Michelle Mulroney (“Sherlock Holmes 2”) wrote the screenplay for the picture. “Rock of Ages” director Adam Shankman serves as one of the film’s producers.

Slade is first set to direct the pilot episode of the new TV series “Hannibal”, also based on popular literature.
