Universal greenlights a Best Man sequel

While most would probably prefer to see a sequel to any of the other umpteen wedding-centric films of the past few years – be it “Bridesmaids”, “My Best Friend’s Wedding”, “Father of the Bride”.., um, “Honeymoon in Vegas”? – Universal seem to think audiences will go nuts for a sequel to the rom-com “The Best Man”.

Likely something you saw on DVD, the Malcolm D.Lee written/directed movie told of ”a writer (Taye Diggs) [who] is preparing to be the best man for his football player buddy (Morris Chestnut), but the timing is bad because the writer’s autobiographical novel is about to pop and it describes how the best man bedded the bride.”

Deadline says Lee is rounding up most of the original cast, which also included Terrence Howard, Harold Perrineau, Nia Long and Sanaa Lathan, for a sequel that apparently came together when the cast of the original film recently reunited over dinner. Let’s hope the cast of “Three Fugitives” aren’t planning a catch-up anytime soon.
