New Line has snapped up the pitch “Spy Guys”, written by Adam Sztykiel (“Due Date”) and to be directed by Jorma Taccone (“MacGruber”). ”While attending a friend’s wedding in Europe, a CIA operative is framed and becomes an enemy of the state. Now on his own, he’s forced to reveal his true identity to his average Joe buddies to enlist their help. When they aid his escape, they become wanted as accomplices and must go on the run together to clear their names.”
2. Allen Hughes (“From Hell”) will direct a remake of the Korean film “A Bittersweet Life”, in which “the protagonist is an enforcer and manager of a hotel owned by a crime boss. The enforcer is charged with escorting the boss’s young mistress, who might be having an affair. While he’s told to kill both if in fact she is cheating, the enforcer instead beats up her lover while she watches, and makes them promise never to see each other again. The enforcer is by now smitten with the mistress, and it begins to color a series of dangerous moves he makes that put him at odds both with his boss and the boss’s crime rival. The tale becomes an exercise in vengeance as the enforcer goes up against his longtime boss.”
3. Teri Polo (“Little Fockers”), Cary Elwes (“Saw”) and Agnes Bruckner (“Blood and Chocolate”) will star in the indie film “A Bit of Bad Luck”. “Polo is Amanda, a socialite who puts together a plan to make her husband suffer after she finds out he is planning a weekend getaway with his lover. Cary Elwes is Brooks, the kept and philandering spouse who doesn’t know what’s about to hit him. Agnes Bruckner will play Heather, the husband’s young mistress John W. Fuhrman writes and directs.”
4. Kate Sackhoff (“Battlestar Galactica”) will join Karen Gillen in the horror film “Oculus”, for director Mike Flanagan. The movie “begins a decade after a terrifying family incident left two young children orphans. Although her brother was charged with murder, Kaylie (Gillen) is convinced a haunted antique mirror is the real perpetrator and years later wants prove that the mirror was responsible for destroying their family. Sackhoff, who stars on A&E’s Longmire, will play Marie, the mother to a younger version of Kaylie.”
5. Universal has released an extended look at this Christmas’s “Les Miserables” starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway.
6. Open Road Films, in partnership with Endgame Entertainment, has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to Marlon Wayans’ spoof flick “A Haunted House”, which will bow in January.
7. Fox is developing a modern-day version of ‘Hamlet’ called “America’s Son”, which will be set in Washington DC. Writer Paul Redford’s drama is “a sophisticated contemporary spin on William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. When a beloved presidential hopeful dies in a tragic car wreck, a renegade JFK Jr. type returns home to D.C. to discover his father’s death was no accident — and he makes it his mission to untangle a complicated web of family secrets, expose the truth and ultimately avenge the murder.”
8. “The Great Gatsby” has a new release date : May 10, 2013. That’s for North America. The rest of the world will apparently get it the week after.
9. Roman Polanski plans to make a film of the play “Venus in Fur”, with Emmanuelle Seigner and Louis Garrel starring. “I’ve been looking for a chance to make a film in French with Emmanuelle for a long time,” said Polanski. “Reading Venus in Fur I realized the moment had arrived. I got so fired up to put this brilliant black comedy on film that I decided to fit it in before D., whose screenplay and pre-production will demand a few more months. Louis Garrel and Emmanuelle Seigner will make for a stunning duo.”
