Why Michael Douglas decided to do Ant-Man

When Michael Douglas signed for “Ant-Man” yesterday, let alone his designation to the title role, jaws just dropped to the floor accompanied shortly after by a “Wow.. I love it, but.. why would Gordon Gecko want to wear latex?” (obviously some people still need to see “Behind the Candelabra”).

Personally, I think it’s obvious why Douglas wants to be in a multimillion dollar Marvel movie superhero blockbuster that everyone is going to see. But I can’t be bothered explaining it.

Reuters decided to ask the “Romancing the Stone” and “Basic Instinct” stud what appealed to him about Edgar Wright’s superhero jaunt.

“I’ve been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long. The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan (the actor’s 13-year-old son) will love it. He’ll have a picture he can see.”

Fair enough.

The actor, recently seen in the so-so ‘Hangover for geriatrics’ “Last Vegas”, offered up another explanation for doing it.

”Sometimes – like (when) they didn’t see you for Liberace – you’ve got to shake them up a little bit and have some fun.”

Like anyone that signs for a Marvel movie, Douglas was forced to agree to the inevitable sequel or four.

“[Marvel] reciprocated well, there are sequels,” he replied. “Who knows?”

Think there’s a chance Douglas’s Dr. Hank Pym might join Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang in an upcoming “Avengers” flick? Or maybe Pym might cross-over into one of the other solo superhero flicks that’s in the works?
