Wiig-Galifianakis comedy pulled from release calendar!

The latest cinematic casualty to find itself chopped from a release schedule as a result of Relativity’s bankruptcy is “Masterminds”, the action-comedy starring Kristen Wiig and Zach Galifianakis, that was originally due for release October 9.

Variety, who have the scoop on the film’s postponement, learnt of the move by way of the film’s international distributors. Relativity have since confirmed the delay but promises it’ll still release sometime in 2015.

Foreign distributors aren’t happy with the decision to put “Masterminds” on the backburner, saying it’s left them with a big hole in their calendars.

“This was our big late summer, early fall movie,” said Erik Engelen of Amsterdam-based A-Film, which distributes pictures in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. “We spent money on this one and not on another. You can spend your money only once and so we now have a gap in our lineup that is impossible to replace.”

Though Englen hadn’t begun PR for “Masterminds” in his territory, others had, so again it’s another expense and inconvenience.

“Masterminds”, which was originally fashioned for Jim Carrey and Zach Galifianakis, tells of a night guard at an armored car company in the Southern U.S. who organizes one of the biggest bank heists in American history.

In light of their money woes, Relativity recently had to sell Natalie Portman western “Jane Got a Gun” as well as cancel their long-gestating reboot of “The Crow”.
