Would you pay $60 to see a new Eddie Murphy movie?

Like a hooker with licorice breasts, this would wanna be worth it.

Cable company Comcast, an offshoot of Universal, are going to be offering U.S citizens the chance to see Brett Ratner’s new comedy “Tower Heist”, starring Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller, a few three weeks after it’s release… for the bargain-basement price of $59.99!

Yep, for a cool $60 you can be the envy of your friends, having seen Eddie Murphy’s highly-anticipated follow-up to laugh-bonanza “Imagine That” at your house! And we all know Ben Stiller’s worth more than $60 – – I don’t know about you, but I offered to pay the box office an extra $20 after leaving “Night at the Museum 2”. As for Ratner, I’d probably go a second mortgage for anything that man does.

Sarcasm aside, yes, you can rent “Tower Heist” three weeks after it’s release – if you’ve wads of spare cash around.

Thankfully, the film is supposed to be quite good so maybe this early at-home roll-out will lead to some good buzz and online reviews ahead of the film’s helping extend the run at cinemas. Still, it’s an expensive layout. There’s a chance this experiment might hurt both consumer and film.

“The first of its kind, this experiment will allow the two companies to sample consumer appetite for this film in this window at this price while allowing the film to achieve its full potential at the box office,” a Universal spokesperson told THR.

Theatre owners were pissed when the cinema-to-VOD window was downsized to 60 days earlier in the year (“Unknown” was one of the films available to buy on the telly after only a couple of months at the cinema) so they’re likely not going to be happy about giving up a movie 3 weeks after it’s debut.

At this stage only Comcast customers in Portland and Atlanta can purchase “Tower Heist”.
