YouTube DeepFaker hired by Lucasfilm to work on The Mandalorian

Shamook did a perfect DeepFake of a young Luke Skywalker

Talented YouTube deepfake artist Shamook, whose de-aging videos of a young Luke Skywalker in “The Mandalorian” impressed even more than the one ultimately used, has gotten ‘the call’.

Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light and Magic has hired the YouTuber – whose clips for “The Irishman”,”TRON Legacy” and “Rogue One” also significantly impress.

A rep for Lucasfilm tells IndieWire: “[Industrial Light and Magic is] always on the lookout for talented artists and have in fact hired the artist that goes by the online persona ‘Shamook’. Over the past several years ILM has been investing in both machine learning and A.I. as a means to produce compelling visual effects work and it’s been terrific to see momentum building in this space as the technology advances.”
