Trailer: Warcraft

After a full trailer and a short TV spot, the video game adaptation “Warcraft” has fans of the popular online game ecstatic, while others are not as understanding. But with a fantastic new minute-long trailer, it’s hard not to get wrapped up in the increasing hype for this film.

The full trailer gave us a bit of the storyline but mostly was a showcase for the unique visual design of the world. Director Duncan Jones has utilized the CGI motion-capture technology that gained huge praise in 2014’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes“. So Jones has some of the most sophisticated armaments at his disposal for this one, and by the footage seen so far, it’s really paying off. And while everyone may not see the appeal of this yet, it’s easily one of the best looking adaptations of the genre in a long time.

The main conflict of the film is between powerful human civilizations having to decide how to handle their orc counterparts who inhabit the nearby regions. Instead of the human (if not child-sized) appearance of orcs, as seen in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, these orcs are like mammoths. Many of the males tower over any human that stands beside them. And in this TV spot, we get an even better glimpse at very noticeable difference. Some mighty orc is readying himself to charge at a single human soldier as the two face-off on a desolate battlefield. Jones has also mentioned his want for using as many practical effects as possible, which is a great way to integrate the motion-capture technology effectively.

Travis Fimmel stars as the lead with Dominic Cooper, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, and Toby Kebbell in supporting roles. After this thrilling new footage, it’s very possible a second full trailer could be released in the next month or two, so stay tuned.

“Warcraft” hits theaters on June 10.
