Clint Morris with an early Mailbag

I don’t have much time at the moment… seem to be in transit all the time… but I’ve had a few people ask me lately why I haven’t done the Mailbag in a couple of weeks. Rather than answer them, I just thought I’d do one (I sound like a hooker whose just been asked if she can discount a guy because it’s his birthday). Email Clint with your best [or most ridiculous] question.

Q. Clint, “Spider-Man 3” sucked. What happened there?! – Michelle
A. Michelle, meet Bob.

Q.A follow up to my previous “Spider-Man 3” post I sent to your last mailbag. Since recent news became available about “Spider-Man 4,” Morlun, Carnage and Lizard being the mentioned as possible bad guys, uncertainty about whether or not Tobey, Kirsten, and Sam come back, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jake Gylenhal are replacements for Spider-Man, Mandy Moore for Mary Jane, it’s hard to take it all in just like the “Spider-Man 3” movie.
With all of these new rumours popping up everyday, sub plots among actors / villains /directors, and uncertainty, they seem to echo the plot line as I’ve seen “Spider-Man 3 ” twice now and I’m still trying to take it all in. I still think no Tobey, Kirsten, and Sam = failure from the beginning. I know Marvel wants a number 4 made with the big box office opening but let the fans digest number 3 for a while then attempt a number 4 with Tobey, Sam and Kirsten.
– Trevor
A. Don’t stress, I heard some hot news this morning about “Spider-Man 4” – Joel Schumacher is directing and he’s already got the costume designers modifying the suit. From the next one on, Spidey will shoot webs from the nipple sockets on his spandex top!

Q.Good move on “The Hulk” team for picking out Ed Norton and now Liv Tyler as Betty Ross are all perfect appetizers luring me back towards this franchise again. I’m proud they’re on a giving mood because even the relationship arc I can give a damn about not so much with the poor choices like Alba on “Fantastic 4”, Paltrow on “Iron Man”, Bosworth on “Superman”. I’m all about “Spiderman” and “Batman” but Dunst and Bryce were a letdown and I’m staying strong about the recast on the “Dark Knight”. I’m looking forward to hear about other brilliant actors for the Hulk ensemble – Luke
A. Hi Izzie (you’re hot on “Grey’s Anatomy!”), word just in is that Justin Timberlake is playing General Thunderbolt Ross in the new Hulk movie.

Q.Get Edward Furlong back into the “Big Time” movies. Clean up his F****** and S*** mouth and he’ll be a great actor and money maker for the film industries. We need more people like him; the other ones are very respected but have a limited time in age. Gotta keep it going. Edward is perfect for roles, he just needs confidence. – Stormy
A. Thanks Mr Furlong, give my best to your son – he rocked in “American History X”; not so much in “The Crow: Wicked Prayer”.

Q.I like it too. More like love it that Liv Tyler is the Hulk’s leading lady. I like it better than Iron Man, Spiderman, Ghost Rider and The Dark Knight. You’re right now I’m more intrigued with this Hulk comeback. I gave up after the first one but now I’m being converted back – Matt
A. We all like it my friend, we all like it. Just remember, if it’s dry, use the KY. Right on Brother.

Q.I know Bruce Campbell\’s latest directing endeavour, “My Name is Bruce” has been shown at the Ashland film festival and will be shown, out of competition, at Cannes. Just wondering if there was any word about a release date in the U.S.? Also, thanks for keeping me informed on everything film for the past two years. Invaluable knowledge when gossiping around a film studies department in college. – Wade
A. My pleasure man – it was either a film site or a site about kitchen renovations. No word on a release date yet, though, I hear it will get a theatrical release.

Q. hey clint i brain storm for the cast for dukes of hazzard 3 keep willie nelson and bill engvaull as rosco p coletrain and get larry the cable as cooter and get ashton kutcher as bo duke and get tom welling as luke duke and a pussycatdoll of jessica as daisy duke and get tobey magurie as enos and kevin farley as boss hogg and hank willimas jr, as the ballader and make it a good clean family movie like tv show was holden – Holden
A. Brain storm indeed. Ouch.

Q. hey clint what about the fast and furious 4 then after that are they going to a number 5 and 6 and get paul walker and vin deisel and lucas black to return in it and the old crew back and rob cohen that freakin awsome lucas black in the story lucas black drive,s his green mustang back to la and vin and paul find him in the race so the 3 of them team and drive there muscle cars oh yeah that would be bucks to go see at the movies holden. – Holden
A. There were rumours of a “Fast and the Furious 4”… I’ll let Universal know you think it “would be bucks to go see at the movies”. Yee-haw!

Q. Hi Clint, I have some questions for you: Will Joe Johnston continue being the Director of “Jurassic Park 4”?, Would be there a new sequel for “Jaws”?, Is it true that the original characters from the first 2 “Mummy” films will not be on the third? I want to tell you something, I’m a Jurassic park fan, so tell me whatever you know of JP4, Please – Charles
A. I want to tell you something; I’m a big-time alcoholic, so pour me a tall glass please. Ok, answers: Joe Johnston was onboard “Jurassic Park 4”, don’t know if he still is; no new sequels to “Jaws”; and yes, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz’s characters from the first two “Mummy” movies WILL be in the new “Mummy” movie – only Weisz won’t be playing Evie, they’re searching for a replacement.

Q.hey clint, whats up man?ii nearly finished reading “watchmen” and I have to say it’s definitely THE best thing I’ve ever read and I cant wait to see the film. I read that some of the biggest names in Hollywood are after roles in the film. Any info as to who they might be for us? Cheers Man, the lusty leprechaun.. – LL
A. Not much man. Nothing’s up. Too cold. The best Thing I’ve ever read was last weekend’s newspaper headline “Paris Hilton Going to Jail”. Bloody inspired me. Just richly rewarding stuff. Anyway, Tom Cruise WAS circling “Watchmen” at one stage, but at the moment, I believe the only chap attached is Gerard Butler.

Q.“Veronica Mars” is already cancelled and any efforts to sway decision makers would be wasted. That is why Cloud Watchers (the fans who hired the ‘Renew Veronica Mars’ plane last spring) chose to spend their remaining time and funds on the TAKE TO THE STREETS campaign:
http://www.watchveronicamars.net/flyer_campaign
This past weekend professional street teams in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Chicago distributed 30,000 flyers advertising the series’ May 1st comeback in its new weekly-mystery format. And to make sure potential Nielsen viewers outside the top four television markets weren’t left in the dark, VM fans all over the country joined together to hand out flyers in their hometowns.
VERONICA MARS returns Tuesday night at 9:00 EST and its creator will be pitching ideas for the fourth season the following day. Fans are hopeful that he will have new higher ratings to point to when he gives his presentation to the network.
We recognize that the tremendous media support is one of the primary reasons that VM has continued to offer a quality programming alternative for three years and we thank you for your continued support.
– VM Media
A. And since Kristen Bell knocked back an offer to play my substitute hot water bottle for the winter months, I’m going to NEED her to stay on TV! Watch it peoples! Watch it!

Q. Dear Clint, I’m like every moment you ever saw Sly crushed in a movie after seeing my old BBC review used in your “Rocky IV” piece about movies you like but the critics didn’t. I wrote it years ago along with reviews for the other four movies as they were being shown on BBC TV. At the time I thought I should really be the model of restraint and hey lets face it the movie is like “Rocky The Musical” (now whatever happened to that project?).
Fact is after watching “Rocky Balboa” for the second time in the cinemas in January I headed home and loaded up Rocky IV for the umpteenth time with a slug load of beer because without a doubt it is the motherload of training sequence wet dreams and has the very best villains in cinematic history: The Soviets!
So let me just add my approval of “Rocky IV” as an A class, mustn’t miss action guilty pleasure that I’d happily watch along with “Over The Top” any day of the week (although booze does help). Moral of the story – don’t trust reviewers – we don’t make anything! Cheers,
– Almar
A. We don’t? Oh. I tell ya what I DO Know!! The words to…. Hearts on Fire! “Hearts on fire, strong desire, rages deep within, hearts on fire, fever’s rising high…the moment of truth draws near!” (Electric guitar! Yeah!)

Q. I wanted to comment on the “Beetlejuice” sequel news… let me just say, wow! Im disgusted… no Michael Keaton, direct to dvd, beetlejuice 2??? Need I say more? I love the original, dark comedy; cult classic and DO NOT want to see it tarnished by something like this. How do I contact Warner to let them know my thoughts? I’d be willing to start a petition… what the hell is going on in Hollywood? Next thing you know they’ll take my all time favourite, the wizard of oz, and make a crappy sequel and remake to that… oh, wait… – Wayne
A. Keaton IS Beetlejuice! You’re right! I just can’t imagine Carrot Top in the part, can you?

Q.Clint, how do you keep up with it all? A website? A day job? Producing films? Making babies? – Peter
A. I have some great cream for the rash.

Q.Clint, your “Caffeinated Clint” column is so funny. You’re a man after my own heart – you love the 80s; you love cool movies; you seem like a genuinely good guy. Can we meet? I think there’s something here? – Trude
A. Yeah, and then you’ll potboil my fuckin’ rabbit.
