The 4th film of “The Purge” franchise is shaking things up, with a new director. James DeMonaco, the creator of the series, directed the last 3 films, and this will be the first one he isn’t directing. Despite this, he will still be involved and also wrote the script for the new chapter.
Gerard McMurray (creator of “Burning Sands”) has been tapped to direct “The Purge 4”, set to take the series to the next level. Plot details for the fourth installment are being kept under wraps at this stage, but the release date has been set for July 4, 2018.
DeMonaco was onboard with the change in director, commenting “I have not seen a film as confidently directed in a long time as Burning Sands, and I’m excited to see Gerard’s own expression of the Purge world” (via THR). DeMonaco is currently working on “The Purge” TV series.
