Donner confident Lethal Weapon 5 will happen

A few weeks back word hit that the terrific trio of Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and Danny Glover were looking at relaunching the “Lethal Weapon” movie franchise. According to the reports, the main parties were in talks with Warner Bros to see if a fourth sequel to the 1987 hit couldn’t see the light of day.

Appearing on the Spocklight podcast, director Donner suggests that while other incarnations of “Lethal Weapon 5” haven’t come to fruition he’s confident this one will.

“It’s a story I came up with with Channing Gibson, the writer who wrote “Lethal Weapon 4,” and I’m just having to work it out with the studio. If everybody steps up and we all get together, we’ll make it. Mel and Danny are on board. If it doesn’t work out, at least we tried. But there’s a better chance that you will see the movie.”

Gibson and Glover last played Martin Riggs and Roger Martaugh, respectively, in 1998’s “Lethal Weapon 4”.
