Paul Feig wants Ghostbusters II – but do you?

It may have blown like a gasket on a run-down 1981 Cortina but Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters” reboot definitely made some bucks on home video – and, it goes without saying, got us talking.

But does dinner table conversation and VOD rentals pave the way for a sequel?

The filmmaker sure hopes so.

Asked by Yahoo! Whether he’d be keen to open up the fire-house for another sequel in the long-running franchise, Feig expressed enormous enthusiasm – but noted that it’s down to Sony as to whether or not one happens.

“We would love to; it’s really up to the studio to want to do it. We had so much fun making that movie. The movie’s just really built an audience in the two years since it’s been out. I get contacted every day by people who are such fans of it, and so many women who are inspired by seeing women in science. I will go to my grave so proud of that movie, and so proud of what that cast did in that film.”

Though not a critical success, “Ghostbusters” made all of its $144 million back and then some – with the final return figure hovering around the $230 million mark.

The “Bridesmaids” helmer has expressed his love for the film numerous times since its release, seemingly befuddled why others don’t rate it as much.

“It was a great regret in my life that the movie didn’t do better, ’cause I really loved it,” he previously said. “It’s not a perfect movie. None of my movies are perfect. I liked what we were doing with it. It was only supposed to be there to entertain people.”

Previous reports suggested Sony were reassessing the future of the brand, with everything from an animated movie to a fully-fledged sequel to the original films on the cards.
