Val Kilmer, Kenny Loggins return for Top Gun sequel

Top Gun (1986)

Val Kilmer will reprise his role as ‘Iceman’ in the “Top Gun” sequel, says The Wrap.

“Top Gun : Maverick”, which sees Tom Cruise reprise his Lt. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in a Joseph Kosinski-directed follow-up to Tony Scott’s 1986 classic, is currently filming in San Diego.

Kilmer, who’ll be back as Maverick’s adversary Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, is only the second cast member announced for the Paramount/Skydance production.

The actor, whose other notable films include “Tombstone” and “Top Secret”, was spotted in San Diego, in and around the hotel used for the production, this week.

No word yet on whether original “Top Gun” castmembers Kelly McGillis, Rick Rossovich, Adrian Pasdar, Michael Ironside, James Tolkan, Tom Skerritt or Whip Hubley will be joining Cruise and Kilmer on the film.

Meantime, Kenny Loggins, who provided the original film with the iconic track “Danger Zone”, tells TMZ that he’ll be returning to re-record the tune for the sequel. The legendary pop singer says it’s likely the new version of the song will be a duet.

“Top Gun : Maverick” is due for release July 12, 2019.
