Let’s face it, everyone loved “Grease” and everyone wants more. Lucky for us, Paramount have delivered, with the announcement that “Summer Loving” – a prequel to “Grease” – is in the works with John August to write it.
August penned movies such as “Big Fish” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, and is a regular contributor to projects from Tim Burton.
If you’re not familiar with “Grease” (who are you), it’s a 1978 classic musical film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as high school teens from opposite worlds — Travolta’s Danny Zuko a rough-and-tumble greaser, Newton-John’s Sandy Olsson a virginal good-girl from Australia. Despite their differences in past, sparks fly and they enjoy a summer romance.
The prequel is said to address their first meeting over the summer holidays.
“Grease” has enjoyed much more success than just the initial film, with a sequel (that never really took off), as well as a “live for TV” treatment on Fox in 2016 in a version starring Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens, which proved to be a hit, winning five Emmys in the process.
