Let’s Rock! Twin Peaks-inspired video game now available in English

A “Twin Peaks”-inspired video game, previously only available in Japanese, is about to get a new lease of life thanks to a newly-released, downloadable English version.

“Mizzurna Falls”, released by Human Entertainment for Playstation consoles in 1998, has become somewhat of a cult sensation over the years, with numerous fans working to translate it themselves over the years. Earlier this week, an English-take was unveiled.

Freelance translator ‘Resident Evie’ spent a considerable amount of time translating the script, her progress of which she tracked on Tumblr, and caught the attention of indie developer ‘Gemini’. He would take Evie’s translations and hack them into the Twin Peaks-inspired offering. Though he didn’t finish the job, his source code and files were released for all.
A third contributor, ‘Starplayer’, picked up the source code from Gemini and converted it into a patch that was used for the game.

”Mizzurna Falls” was the final game released by Human Entertainment, the creators of the ”Clock Tower” series. In it, a young man named Matthew must search for his missing friend Emma in an open-world, real-time game environment with a heavy emphasis on complex storytelling and dialogue. The game is heavily influenced by TV’s “Twin Peaks”.

“It was a bit of a mess, with some missing dependencies and non working methods and no comments, but I managed to make it work, while avoiding a mental breakdown by an inch,” the developer said.
