Briefs : MacGruber series, no more Watchmen, Moonfall & more!

It doesn’t sound like Damon Lindelof has any interest in doing a second series of HBO’s critically acclaimed “Watchmen” series – at least not in it’s current form.

“He is thinking about what he wants to do. Truly, I don’t know at this point whether it is a returning drama series or a limited series”, HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys said at the TCA’s. “I think one of the things Damon did so brilliantly was, he opened up this entire world. So maybe there is another version with a whole new set of characters. I don’t know because Damon doesn’t know, and I’m taking his lead on this. If it’s a season two – great, if it’s a new take on the world – great, if it’s something else completely, I’m just going take his lead.”

Lindelof told USA Today earlier in the week that he was all out of ideas but gives the network his blessing to continue on without him should they wish to.

A new series based on the cult comedy fave “MacGruber” is in the works for NBCU’s Peacock streaming service.

Original lead Will Forte is set to star, co-write and executive produce the series, with Jorma Taccone co-writing and directing and Lorne Michaels (makes sense, the character debuted as a sketch on “Saturday Night Live”) executive producing.

Initially, Forte had plans for a movie sequel but somewhere along the line the proposal was tweaked and became a series. He’d previously said any potential series would feature the original assemblage of actors from the film, including Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillipe and Val Kilmer.
