Wonder Woman 1984 will likely be pushed to 2021

Warner Bros will likely move “Wonder Woman 1984” off the 2020 release schedule and into next year, according to industry trade Deadline.

The film, which has already been delayed several times due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, is currently set to open on Christmas day. Industry sources tell the trade that if “If Warners doesn’t want to incur any lost P&A money, it needs to move WW84 now” and a meeting is apparently being held shortly to discuss the possibility of shifting WW84 to the New Year.

Warner Bros are hellbent on not releasing the superhero sequel direct-to-streaming platforms.

If ”Wonder Woman 1984” does vacate its Christmas release date, Deadline suggests “we could further expect Disney to pull its 20th Century Studios marquee features Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds, and Death on the Nile, which has Gadot doing double-duty.”

Until the globe has a hold on the virus, it’s likely we’ll continue to see only the smallest studio fill release in theaters – like last weekend’s “Come Play”, a PG-13 horror film from Focus Features that did considerable business with teens, and Liam Neeson thriller “Honest Thief”, which has been a decent earner for Open Road.

Two releases that won’t be moving from their 2020 release spots are Tom Hanks starrer “News of the World”, from Universal, and that’s because there’s a PVOD deal in place with AMC, and Screen Gems’ “Monster Hunter” movie starring Milla Jovovich.

While there will no doubt be an update on “WW84″ soon, some have suggested that Warner Bros may reduce the theatrical window for ”WW84” of around 17-21 days before putting it on PVOD.
