Direct sequel to Cloverfield in the works

A direct sequel to Paramount and Bad Robot’s “Cloverfield” is in the works.

Joe Barton will pen a script for the new film, which will reportedly not be in the same found footage format as its predecessor.

The original film, the subject of a colossal marketing campaign, was a monster movie, shot in the then-popular found footage style to reflect the growing ubiquity of video cameras. It followed a group of 20-something New Yorkers as they try to navigate the city during an attack by a giant monster.

Two films set in the ‘Cloverfield universe’ followed, ”10 Cloverfield Lane” and ”The Cloverfield Paradox”.

Barton recently signed to play showrunner on an upcoming HBO Max series about the Gotham City Police Department, said to tie-in with the upcoming film “The Batman”.
