Peter Sarsgaard (The Batman) and Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate) have signed on to star in horror pic The Damning Of A Country Merchant for writer-director Matthew Rosenbaum. To be on offer at Cannes from next week, the pic is set in 1910 Indiana and follows the patriarch of a rural mercantile family (Sarsgaard) whose way of life is suddenly disrupted by a charismatic industrialist who has entered into a secret affair with his wife (Davis). When rising tensions mistakenly lead to the death of a customer, his wounded authority and masculinity leave him vulnerable to truly bizarre and horrific forces causing unimaginable chaos and terror. Upcoming “Yellowstone” spin-off lead Matthew McConaughey will star in The Rivals of Amziah King for writer-director Andrew Robinson. The film is described as “deeply atmospheric, character-focused crime thriller set against the unique backdrop of remote Oklahoma.” The Interstellar actor will star in the titular role of Amziah King. David Heyman, Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, Jeffrey Clifford, Will Greenfield and Patterson will serve as producers. Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård will play father and son in director Andrew Niccol’s Lord of War sequel. Cage reprises his role as arms dealer Yuri Orlov, while It’s Skarsgård is on board to play his son. In Lords of War, Orlov discovers he has a son, Anton, who is trying to top his father’s wrongs rather than stop them as he launches a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle East conflicts. Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill will headline a new Stephen King adaptation The Life Of Chuck for writer-producer-producer Mike Flanagan, director of Doctor Sleep. Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck is three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumour at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.
