Legendary thesps board the next film from ‘Wag the Dog’ director

Acclaimed filmmaker David Mamet (Wag the Dog, The Spanish Prisoner) has added heavyweights Al Pacino and John Travolta to a star-studded ensemble that also includes Courtney Love, Viggo Mortensen, and Shia LaBeouf.

Assassination, presented to Cannes shoppers this week, is a JFK assassination thriller seen through the eyes of the mob.

Per Variety, here’s the official synopsis for the project: “1963. During a crucial justice hearing against organized crime, the head of the Chicago mob orders the assassination of President John F. Kennedy Jr., creating a deadly conspiracy while altering the fate of a nation.”

The pic is scripted by Mamet and Nicholas Celozzi, who based the script on his great uncle, the Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana, who may have played a significant role in orchestrating Kennedy’s assassination.
